The Death of the Constitution by Laziness and Local Bureaucrats

From the Seattle Times:

“They always say, we’ll never go house to house to take your guns away. But then you see this, and you have to wonder.” 

That’s no gun-rights absolutist talking, but Lance Palmer, a Seattle trial lawyer and self-described liberal who brought the troubling Senate Bill 5737to my attention. It’s the long-awaited assault-weapons ban, introduced last week by three Seattle Democrats. 

Responding to the Newtown school massacre, the bill would ban the sale of semi-automatic weapons that use detachable ammunition magazines. Clips that contain more than 10 rounds would be illegal. 

But then, with respect to the thousands of weapons like that already owned by Washington residents, the bill says this: 

“In order to continue to possess an assault weapon that was legally possessed on the effective date of this section, the person possessing shall ... safely and securely store the assault weapon. The sheriff of the county may, no more than once per year, conduct an inspection to ensure compliance with this subsection.” 

In other words, come into homes without a warrant to poke around. Failure to comply could get you up to a year in jail.

Then:

I spoke to two of the sponsors. One, Sen. Adam Kline, D-Seattle, a lawyer who typically is hyper-attuned to civil-liberties issues, said he did not know the bill authorized police searches because he had not read it closely before signing on. 

“I made a mistake,” Kline said. “I frankly should have vetted this more closely.” 

That lawmakers sponsor bills they haven’t read is common. Still, it’s disappointing on one of this political magnitude. Not counting a long table, it’s only an eight-page bill.

Mistake my arse.  This is exactly what the gun control crowd wants in their deepest, darkest wet dreams  - gun confiscation of scary "assault weapons," then registration and inspections  - first on "assault weapons," then on all other types of firearms.

The only mistake here is that someone actually read the bill before it was made law and saw what was in it. They would have pushed this through easily, riding on the backs of dead children in Connecticut every step of the way.

I don't know which is worse - the fact that we live in a country where our elected representatives feel emboldened to introduce such clearly unconstitutional legislation or that our elected officials often pass such legislation without even reading what's in it. And what's worse - we rareley hold them accountable.

"Rural China represents a huge market, about 700 million people and already today, about 100 million of them are online. They have access to the internet and engage. The rest are non-internet users, but they are still a huge opportunity," said Robin Seow, Beijing-based marketing director for HP's Personal Systems Group in China.

Regardless of the profits... Seriously, HP? You actually thought it would be a good idea to team up with the Communist Youth League? Were the Black Panthers, the KKK and the Hitler Youth busy?

This documentary is fascinating. It runs a little less than 30 minutes total. But explains a lot of things that I never knew or realized about Marxism and political correctness. After watching the video, it's easy to connect the dots to the constituents and groups of of the modern Democrat party and "Liberals" in general..

I guess what's troubling most about the video is that all these things were done - and introduced into society and education - very deliberately and just how insidiously rampant they are today.

Seriously. The list above isn't a joke.

Is is me, or are there already actual departments in the government to handle most of these things, such as the Federal Reserve Board, the EPA and the Department of Homeland Security? And where there aren't, are they things that the Federal government even really needs to have its hands in? The Great Lakes Cleanup Czar? The Faith Based Czar? What a joke!

What's also telling is that even many Democrats have a problem with the czar system because the czars have so much power and are not confirmed by nor are accountable to the Congress, which is designed to be the policy and law-making body in the United States.

What all the czars tell me is that:
1. President Obama is a busy-body who has no problem putting his hands all over other people's pies - even if the pies happen to be members of his own family in Congress. Or worse - he's a sly manipulator who is incrementally and systematically destroying our entire system of government from the inside.
2. He wants power concentrated at the executive branch so as not to have to mess with all those pesky checks and balances such as Congress or governmental agencies and so he doesn't have to be as accountable to them
3. There's a constitutional crisis coming as Congress finds itself having less and less actual authority over policy matters that are instead imposed by just a few people.

The very reason we have an executive, a legislative and a judicial branch of government is so that power is not concentrated in the hands of too few. What should be on the minds of the public and the congress is this: such a system is dangerous. It can tip to easily to authoritarian rule. We're on the verge of losing our representative republic by placing such enormous power in the hands of so few.
