Sneaking in to Disneyland

Yesterday, President Obama made a big mess. He just told illegal aliens that they can stay without fear of being deported. And then he had the nerve to say that he was doing this because he just wanted to work with Congress and for them to send him a bill to sign.

Uh... what?

Why now, Mr. President? If you are really serious about working with Congress to pass immigration reform, you would wait until the newly elected Congress takes office in January. Or you would have done this when your party had control of the House and Senate.

You say you only want to deport the "criminals," but you seem to ignore the fact that ALL of these people have broken our laws by entering into our country illegally, which makes them ALL criminals.

As the son of a LEGAL immigrant who did it the right way and worked hard to do so, I take great offense at this, President Barack Obama.

When my kids asked me awhile back about illegal "immigrants," I put it into terms they could understand: We went to Disneyland last year. We paid (and paid dearly) to go there. We bought our tickets and went through the gates. We are like legal immigrants and citizens of the United States.

Illegals are people who may pay to get to Anaheim, but then they sneak over the wall of Disneyland because they just want to provide a better time for their family. They ride the same rides we ride, eat the same food and have the same fun we do. But they broke the rules to get in.

Now, what if the Disney corporation decided to say "it's okay if you sneak in - we won't kick you out. In fact, go ahead and go to the front of the line. AND you get free food and drinks while you're here, too."

How would YOU feel if you paid to go to Disneyland and someone who wasn't even supposed to be there got to cut in line in front of you, time after time, after time?

Even kids can understand that it's not right and that it would be very frustrating.

It's pretty much the same with illegals.

Why Aren't You Speaking English?

During committee testimony this week in Austin, a Texas senator interrupted a Spanish speaker telling him he should "be speaking in English" during a committee hearing.

Antolin Aguirre of the Austin Immigrant Rights Coalition was testifying against Senate Bill 9 that would help crack down on illegal immigrants in Texas. Aguirre spoke through an interpreter even though he had been in the U.S. since 1988.

What a jackass.

What Immigration Problem?

Congratulations to my Aunt, who has been studying very hard and will today take her exam to become a citizen of the United States. She lives on the Swiss/French border and has been going through the immigration process for the past few months.

It's people like her - immigrating legally - following the rules and doing things the way they should be done that make the United States a great place to live. It's also because of people like her and like my dad, who immigrated here legally and became a citizen back in the '70s, that I am utterly opposed to illegal immigrants and to people who break our laws and sneak across our borders "for a better life."

Making Them Deal With It

A measure filed by State Rep. Lois Kolkhorst (R-Brenham) would allow any law enforcement agency that has custody of an illegal immigrant to take the illegal to 'the office of a U.S. Senator or Representative' and leave them there.

1200 WOAI news reports the measure also allows county sheriff's deputies or city police officers to 'request an agent or employee of the United States Senator or United States Representative to sign a document acknowledging the release or discharge of the illegal immigrant at the senator's or representative's office.

I got a chance to hear about the proposal firsthand a few weeks ago when the Washington County Leadership group that I'm in met with Representative Kolkhorst in Austin. At the time, she said that she was still working on the legislation, but I knew that when she filed it it that I'd be mentioning it here. What I didn't expect was to see it on the Drudge Report.

I love the idea behind it. It's not intended toward our local Congressman, Michael McCaul, who is staunchly anti-illegal immigration. Instead, it's aimed at those Congressmen (and women) from other parts of the state - and I'm looking at you Gene Green and Shelia Jackson Lee- who have their heads in the sand about the drain on resources illegal immigration is.

By requiring illegal aliens to b dropped off at a Representative or Senator's office, it forces them to deal with the issue directly instead of insisting that it's a state issue. In other words, it literally brings the issue home.

Brilliant. Lois Kolkhorst for governor, anyone?

May 5 - The Day It's Not Okay to Be an American

A handful of California students got an unexpected lesson at their high school this week: Don't wear your stars and stripes on Cinco de Mayo.

Five Morgan Hill, California students were asked to take off their American flag bandannas and turn their T-shirts inside out after students complained, according to NBC news in San Francisco.

Many members of Live Oak High School's large Mexican-American student population that felt it was offensive for the students to wear the American flag on a day that's supposed to celebrate Mexican heritage.

When the boys refused to take off their flag t-shirts and bandannas, they were ordered to go to the principal's office.

"They said we could wear it on any other day," Live Oak student Daniel Galli said, "but today is sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it's supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today."

Note to morons in California: Conco de Mayo is a holiday publicized by the Corona beer company in order to sell beer, not to "celebrate Mexican heritage." Check the wikipedia page, which says this: "The holiday, which has been celebrated in California continuously since 1863, is virtually ignored in Mexico."

And since when does one expressing pride in one's own country somehow cheapen the pride someone else feels for , I guess, their home country?

Ariz. Gov Signs Bill Revising New Immigration Law

Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday signed a follow-on bill approved by Arizona legislators that make revisions to the state's sweeping law against illegal immigration -- changes she says should quell concerns that the measure will lead to racial profiling.

The follow-on bill signed by Brewer makes a number of changes that she said should lay to rest concerns of opponents.

The changes include one strengthening restrictions against using race or ethnicity as the basis for questioning by police and inserts those same restrictions in other parts of the law.

Another change states that immigration-status questions would follow a law enforcement officer's stopping, detaining or arresting a person while enforcing another law. The earlier law had referred to a "contact" with police.

Another change specifies that possible violations of local civil ordinances can trigger questioning on immigration status.

I still bet that doesn't shut you up, Michael, even though this is what we were saying was the true intent of the law along. "Know a little something about the issues" indeed.

This was never about race or color. It was always about giving the state of Arizona the ability to step up and enforce laws that are already in effect where the Federal government has failed.

Arizona to Pass Nation's Toughest Immigration Law

A bill empowering police to arrest illegal immigrants and charge them with trespassing for simply being in the state of Arizona, is likely just weeks away from becoming the toughest law of its kind anywhere in the country.

Already passed by the state's Senate and currently being reconciled with a similar version in the House, the bill would essentially criminalize the presence of the 460,000 illegal immigrants living in the state.

The measure allows police to detain people on the suspicion that they are illegal immigrants, outlaws citizens from employing day laborers, and makes it illegal for anyone to transport an illegal immigrant, even a family member, anywhere in the state.

The bill's supporters say a local crackdown has become a necessity because the federal government has failed to adequately seal the borders or actively enforce its laws. They blame Arizona's spiraling crime and unemployment rates on its large population of illegal immigrants.

"When you come to America you must have a permission slip, period," said state Sen. Russell Pearce, the Mesa Republican who sponsored the bill. "You can't break into my country, just like you can't break into my house."

Damn right. Now bring the law to Texas.

Meanwhile...

This weekend Republican U.S. Senator John McCain will campaign in Arizona with his former vice presidential running mate Sarah Palin.

McCain is in the midst of one of the toughest primary campaigns of a lengthy career in politics.

McCain, who once back a bipartisan effort to grant illegal immigrants amnesty, has deflected questions about whether he supports the legislation.

"It's a state issue," McCain spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan told ABC News via e-mail.

Contender J.D. Hayworth, a former Republican congressman, however, has come out to actively support the bill and used McCain's ambiguity to attack him.

This is the exact reason McCain didn't get more Conservative support in the last presidential election. He's either on the wrong side or soft on all the wrong issues. It's time for McCain to go.

After Health Care: Illegal Immigration

Reform activists emerged from a meeting with US President Barack Obama Thursday convinced that he could enact sweeping immigration reform this year, despite a toxic political environment.

Obama campaigned on a promise to push a plan to offer legal status to 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States following several failed attempts by his predecessor George W. Bush to enact reform.


But the volatile politics of a mid-term congressional election year and an unemployment rate of 9.7 percent have many observers doubting whether political momentum can be built on such an explosive issue.

Note to reform activists: if you think the opposition to the president's health care plan has been polarizing and shrill, just wait until you try to make all the illegals in this country citizens.

You ain't seen nothing yet.

Busing Illegals is Stupid

I started reading a story this morning about Governor Perry (correctly) stating that President Obama is deliberately trying to move our country toward Socialism. But part of that story talked about something called the Alien Transfer Program, which buses illegal aliens to a town in Texas for processing before they are deported by bus back to Mexico.

According to a story by the CBS affiliate in Odessa, the illegal immigrants are returned to Mexico via secured buses. The station also reported, “last year 4,500 illegals were sent back through Presidio. Now 94 will be bused across this bridge 7 days a week.”

In addition, Brandi Grissom of the Texas Tribune reported last month that Bill Brooks, spokesman for the Border Patrol Marfa Sector, where Presidio is located, said the plan would not create any burden on the local community.

Grissom wrote, “The plan will bring two buses per day to Texas, each with 74 undocumented immigrants. The immigrants will be checked for health problems and will have signed voluntary deportation agreements. The program will not involve immigrants charged with criminal violations, Brooks said. Mexican officials are participating and will provide the immigrants with bus tickets to their hometowns, Brooks said.”

Is it me, or are we making it way too easy for these illegals to just turn right around and come back in? The Mexican government is providing the immigrants with bus tickets back to their home towns??? Who really believes that these people are going to get on that bus and go back to the place they broke international law to leave when they're standing a few hundred yards from the border?

It seems to me that instead of wasting time and money busing people from Arizona (or anywhere) to Texas that we should be putting their asses on a plane and flying them directly to Mexico City, deep inside Mexico. From there maybe the Mexican government could give them their bus passes to their home towns. But let's at least make it difficult for them to try to sneak back in to the United States.
