Next Step- Cyborgs...

From Wired:

For years, the NFL Combine has been vilified as a host for a series of workouts that don’t accurately measure a football player’s impact on the field. Now, one company has potentially changed that with an electronic shirt that tracks everything from heart rate to g force of acceleration.

Damn that's cool.

Huge thanks to Matt for sending this link.

What's Next: Government Investigates Doping in Professional Backgammon

From the NY Daily News:

Former pro cyclist Floyd Landis, who has accused his sport's biggest hero, Lance Armstrong, of doping, helped the federal government collect potentially incriminating audio and video recordings for its sprawling investigation into doping conspiracies in professional cycling, according to sources close to the case.

Last spring, at the behest of federal agents, Landis wore a hidden wire and carried a small portable video camera during an encounter with fashion designer and cycling team owner Michael Ball, according to one source who said the video footage captured images of what appears to be human growth hormone and other doping products in the refrigerator of Ball's luxury apartment in Marina Del Rey, Calif.

Damn, the government sure spends a lot of money trying to catch just one guy who may or may not be using something that isn't illegal - just banned in his sport - a sport the vast majority of Americans couldn't give a rat's ass about.

Who really cares? And is it worth all the time and government resources we're spending trying to prove that Lance Armstrong is on the juice? I think not.

I want my taxes credited for the amount of this crap investigation.

Football is Better Than Baseball Any Day, Even When Jacksonville is Playing

From USA Today:

Although baseball has long lost its claim to being the national pastime last night's events essentially stomped it into the ground. That the Tennessee-Jacksonville Monday Night Football game drew better TV ratings than the Yankees-Rangers ALCS game is astonishing, and makes you wonder if a good college football game could whip the best that MLB has to offer.

I've long maintained that football is America's pastime. Case closed.

And..... Scene!

This has got to be one of the most blatant, egregious examples of fakery I've ever seen in professional sports.

Thanks to Matt for sharing...

Astros Lose to Freaking Washington Nationals 14-4

From the Houston Chronicle:

Bizarre, for lack of a better word, would not begin to describe what transpired for the Astros on Monday afternoon at Minute Maid Park.

Shameful. It's like losing to the Alief Little League team.

Bearkats Choke, Lose to Baylor 68-59

One of the best, hardest fought games I've ever seen. And things looked good for the Bearkats right up until about the three minute mark. Then they just visibly crumbled. It was remarkable because you could almost see the moment the players knew the game was over.

Bearkats Lead Baylor 31-30 at Halftime

Go Kats.

Is David Beckahm's Career Over?

From AP News:

David Beckham left his hotel on crutches and headed to the airport Monday morning to catch a flight to Finland for surgery on his torn left Achilles' tendon.

The former England captain was injured in the closing minutes of AC Milan's 1-0 win over Chievo Verona on Sunday.

With his hopes of becoming the first English player to appear in four World Cups shattered and his future in international soccer in doubt, Beckham was slated for surgery either later Monday or Tuesday morning with specialist surgeon Dr. Sakari Orava.

I'm not a soccer guy, but i hate to see a great player go out this way. Best of luck with his recovery. However, if his career is, in fact, over it will bring at least one good thing: maybe then he and his annoying skeletor wife will fade into the background and we won't have to put up with her anymore.

Canada Wins Hockey Gold With 3-2 Sudden-Death Victory Over U.S.

Sorry, but it just feels wrong when Canada doesn't win a gold medal in hockey.

If they had medals for saying "aboot" and ending sentences in "ey?" or having really backward ideas, I'd expect them to win gold in that, too.

Congratulations, Canada.
